THE INSPIRATION OF THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES
Abstract: The problem about the inspiration of the Holy Scripture is one of the important issues in the New Testament theology and therefore it is often discussed. The publication examines the various hypotheses, connected with the teaching about the inspiration, as well the following questions: Does the action of inspiration extend only to the Bible or it could be connected with other Christian books? The following question is connected with the same issue: Is the idea of inspiration equal with the canon? What do we understand as Revelation and can we identify the all biblical books with the Revelation? In the investigation we will put attention to the understanding about the absence of definition of the term “inspiration,” that can be built on the etymology of the very word. Therefore we can not extend the act of the inspiration only to the books of the Bible. If it is true, then we can see in the scriptures of the Church Fathers the actions of God. But the Holly Scriptures keep their normativity, because in them we find the experience of eyewitnesses. The view, that the books of the Church have to be understood as written Revelation, but not like the very Revelation, that is the direct experience of the writers, is clearly expressed. In conclusion in a postulate formulae the common understanding in orthodox and catholic theology is mentioned, that the teaching about inspiration is interpreted in the light of Chalcedon Creed: during the writing of the biblical texts God`s grace participates together with the man with his efforts.
