Abstract: The paper studies the collocation open mouth using excerpts from the Corpus of Contemporary American English. The analysis shows the valency patterns and the typical parts of speech which occur near the collocation open mouth. It also reveals the variety of activities that different corpora suggest concerning a particular collocation. It proves it is much easier to learn a language based on the examples from the corpora and they help learners enrich their language by studying a particular usage instead of trying to memorize new words in isolation.
