Abstract: The study of issues about historically determined features of literary phenomena, thematic lines, genre forms or aesthetic categories is usually the subject of large-scale research, accompanied by widely and conscientiously studied empirical materials. The present text has no such purposes and is limited to an overview of historically established dramatic forms. Although it is an overview, the study marks key stages in their construction, using as reference points the features of the act, dialogue or dramatic characters and their transformations from the model of classical Aristotelian drama to the aesthetics of modern drama of the late nineteenth century, the epic theater of B. Brecht and the theater of the absurd of J. Ionesco and S. Beckett. Key words: Aristotle, classical drama, action, conflict, Ionesco, Beckett, theatre of absurd
