Шуменски университет „Епископ Константин Преславски” Факултет по хуманитарни науки Катедра История и археология 2024 ============================= Abstract: During the last 100 years of archaeological research in Odessos, modern-day Varna, it has become clear that the temenos of the early Apoikia was located on the steep terrace above the sea coast. The remains of Hellenistic temple buildings have been located in this area, and epigraphic evidence has been found regarding the existence of sanctuaries and religious-associated buildings and structures honouring various deities. In recent years, the intensive development of the area has allowed new archaeological investigations to be carried out which have greatly increased our knowledge of religious life in the city during the Late Archaic and Classical periods. The discoveries include dozens of pits (pl. bothroi) containing rich archaeological material. Their topographical location suggests that they were associated with more than one temenos.
