ШУМЕНСКИ УНИВЕРСИТЕТ "ЕПИСКОП КОНСТАНТИН ПРЕСЛАВСКИ" ФАКУЛТЕТ ПО ХУМАНИТАРНИ НАУКИ КАТЕДРА ИСТОРИЯ И АРХЕОЛОГИЯ 2025 ============================= Abstract: The present study aims to trace the stages in the study of the unpublished necropolises of medieval Shumen, to analyze the main problems in their interpretation and to outline the prospects for future research in the context of the broader scope of medieval Bulgarian culture. The review of the studies on the necropolises of the Shumen Fortress from the 13th-15th centuries shows the enormous volume of research work carried out so far. Regardless of the aforementioned problems, the analysis of the accumulated empirical material provides an opportunity to obtain important data on the social, ethnic and religious structure of the population during the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
